Open reading Frames

This set of actions allows the detection of coding regions and open reading frames on a DNA sequence and send the result to the Output window:

An Open Reading Frame or ORF is defined as an uninterrupted stretch of coding DNA delimited by a start codon on the 5' end and a stop codon on the 3' end. A coding region is an uninterrupted stretch of coding DNA without specification of a start codon. All these parameters can be changed in the Options > Biology > ORFs panel including the threshold for minimal length detection.

1. Choose Analysis > ORFs in the main menu or Sequence Analysis > ORFs in the selection contextual menu.

2. Choose any of listing options:

• List ORFs: List the ORFs found on the 3 reading frames of the sequence.

• Map ORFs: Map of ORFs on the DNA sequence in all 6 reading frames.

• List Coding Regions: List the coding regions on the 3 reading frames of the sequence.

• Map Coding Regions: Map the coding regions on the DNA sequence in all 6 reading frames.
